Dean's Council

Everyday, Harvard Kennedy School students, faculty, staff, and alumni are inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s call to service, “Ask what you can do.” So, too, is the Harvard Kennedy School Dean’s Council. A core group of advisors and friends, the Dean’s Council is dedicated to helping Dean David T. Ellwood advance the Kennedy School’s mission of public leadership.

Founded in 1994, the Dean’s Council comprises a diverse group of individuals from around the world. Members include leaders in government, business, finance, law, and other fields of endeavor. Many have served as advisors to governments, public commissions, and nonprofit institutions. As members of the Dean’s Council, these leaders:

  • provide advice and real-world perspective on the strategic priorities that Dean Ellwood sets for the Kennedy School;
  • serve as strong and enthusiastic ambassadors of the Kennedy School, raising the visibility of its achievements, its people, and its mission of public service;
  • advise the Dean, faculty, and administrative staff on the development of compelling cases for support; and
  • set the pace for philanthropy at Harvard Kennedy School, providing core unrestricted financial support for its highest priorities, including financial aid, faculty recruitment, and curriculum initiatives.

Through their guidance, enthusiasm, innovative ideas, and financial commitment, Dean’s Council members provide strong leadership and an inspiring example to the entire Kennedy School community.
