Julius E. Babbitt Memorial Alumni Volunteer Award

Julius E. Babbitt MPA 2001 (1969-2006), former Director of Alumni Programs, was a passionate supporter of the Harvard Kennedy School. Before joining the HKS staff, he was active in the New England Alumni Association, eventually serving as Chair for two years. During his tenure, Julius instituted such programs as an annual dinner, a negotiations class, a partnership with the United Nations Association of Greater Boston to bring the annual UN traveling film series to New England, and a partnership with a Harvard Business School alumni group to work with HKS alumni each year to mentor a selected nonprofit organization. As a member of the Kennedy School Alumni Board, he took the lead to set up a program to match students with alumni mentors. He also volunteered for the Harvard Alumni Association. As Director of the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Programs Office, Julius envisioned a large and vital corps of alumni volunteers working across the globe to connect alumni with each other and with the School.

This award was created to acknowledge an alumna/us whose passion, energy, and effectiveness as a volunteer for the School and the alumni community is inspirational.
