Board Committees

Across all committees, the HKSAA Board seeks to improve alumni interaction, enrich the alumni experience, and support the School and its students. The Board works in collaboration with the Office of External Affairs, the Alumni Relations Office, the Office of Career Advancement, and HKS Regional Alumni Associations in the U.S. and internationally.

HKSAA Committee Work Reflects the Short and Long Term Goals of the Board

Career Advancement Committee

The Career Advancement Committee is establishing volunteer teams from each HKS Regional Alumni Association to mentor HKS students and alumni who wish to cultivate career networks and professional relationships. The volunteer mentors will serve as additional resources for HKS students and alumni to those found in the HKS Alumni Directory (the online community) and JACK (the job search database). The mentorship program is just one of several strategies to strengthen and expand advising, networking, and career opportunities for students and alumni.

Alumni Awards Committee

The Alumni Awards Committee is establishing an award that will recognize, honor, and celebrate outstanding HKS alumni in the U.S. and internationally by showcasing current achievement. In addition, the committee will revitalize and increase participation in the existing HKS awards: the Alumni Achievement Award honoring a lifetime of achievement; the Rising Star Award recognizing alumni within a few years of graduation who have shown promising leadership potential; and the Julius E. Babbitt Alumni Volunteer Award for outstanding volunteer service to HKS and the alumni community. By increasing the visibility of these awards, the committee hopes to promote the School and its alumni, as well as to engage alumni in other HKS activities.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee is involved in efforts to build the Dean’s Fund, which is the primary source for financial aid for HKS students. In addition, the Dean’s Fund strengthens the core curriculum, creates new program initiatives, and supports faculty research. The Board is working to increase alumni participation in this important Fund by reaching out to fellow classmates to encourage their support. The Board is also encouraging alumni to become members of the Littauer Society by contributing a leadership gift to the School. Working together with the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving teams, the committee hopes to show a significant increase in the giving participation rate of HKS alumni.

(L-R): Roland Castañeda MPP/JD 1974; Jackie Weatherspoon MPA 1991 Co-Chair; Giles Whiting MPP 2005; Andrea Marmolejo MPA 1988; Rudy Brioché MPP 2000 Chair.

Marketing and Branding Committee

With direction from the Marketing and Branding Committee, Board members and volunteers from the regional associations are promoting the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Association at HKS events in Cambridge and elsewhere. Using the HKS website, Harvard/HKS publications, and e-mail, the committee seeks to connect and engage alumni by increasing awareness of the School’s alumni and their activities around the globe. In partnership with the Alumni Relations Office, the committee will increase awareness of alumni services offered as well as what alumni can do for HKS.
