1/09/08 -- Though a cold winter rain poured outside, inside the temperature was "hot" as New York City regional alumni celebrated the holidays on December 19.
The trendy Midtown Puetro Rican restaurant, Sofrito, was the location for this year's gathering. Nearly 50 KSG alumni braved the weather not only to toast the holidays, but also to welcome members of the Class of 2007 that have newly located to New York City.
"It was wonderful to see people from all different years gathered to welcome the newest alums in continuing this tradition that started last year," said Julie Dreizen, MPP 1995, member of the KSG NYC steering committee and event organizer.
"I thought after commencement, my KSG life is done, but no. I can't help feeling I am back to the KSG family again, and in New York City! It's great to talk with many KSGers about their work and life in New York," said Lin Yang, MPP 2007.
With mojitos, pina coladas and Caribbean appetizers in hand, KSG NYC members networked to the sounds of salsa. During the three-hour reception, alumni renewed old acquaintances, while members of the Class of 2007 were introduced to the alumni network.
"The KSG NYC alumni gathering was a great mix of alumni from all different professional backgrounds," said Christopher Hermann, MPP 2007. "It not only allowed me to get to know new people living in the New York City area, but also to socialize with fellow alumni working in the field of communications and public affairs."
During the event, Horacio Gutierrez, MPA 2005, chair of the KSG NYC Steering Committee, was able to inform alumni of additional activities tentatively planned for the winter and spring, including periodic networking socials, and seminars, as well as an upcoming event featuring Dean David Ellwood.
"We're very excited about the events we have planned for this year, and we are pleased with the enthusiasm shown by alumni who have attended events to date. We encourage all alumni in NYC to join in the upcoming activities," said Gutierrez.
