Rising Star Award

Instituted in 2001, this award recognizes recent, young HKS alumni who have already distinguished themselves as leaders, catalysts for change, or people who are making a meaningful difference to individuals, organizations, or governments. Recipients exemplify the HKS mission “to educate enlightened public leaders and generate answers to our most challenging public problems” at all levels and across all sectors.

Nominee Criteria

  1. Completed an HKS degree or certificate program.
  2. Under 35 years of age.
  3. May be self-nominated or nominated by a fellow alumnus/a or Harvard faculty or staff member.
  4. Nominee has distinguished him/herself as a leader, catalyst for change, or a person who is making a meaningful difference to individuals, organizations, or governments and is on a trajectory for future success consistent with HKS values.
  5. Nominee’s work should exemplify HKS values such as courage, integrity, inspirational behavior, demonstrated commitment to public service and to solving the world’s most crucial problems, and innovative leadership in making the world a better place and increasing the public good. The nominee can be working in the public or private sector or nongovernmental arena.
  6. Work history may include periods of employment in the private, public, or nonprofit sectors on a local, regional, national, or international level. Volunteer work is also eligible for consideration.
