Alfred Schipke

is Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy and teaches courses in international trade and finance. He has worked in developing countries and emerging markets and provided policy advice to countries ranging from Estonia and Poland to Jamaica, Brazil, and Argentina. He has published a number of books and articlesincluding three volumes on Central America. Currently, he is writing a textbook that looks at the relationship between macroeconomics and global financial markets. His most recent research and policy advice has focused on economic integration. Also, from 2006-2009, he was the IMF Regional Resident Representative for Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. In this capacity, he provided policy advice to governments in the region, headed large research projects, and organized conference for ministers of finance, central bank presidents, and financial sector superintendents. In 2008/2009 he was the mission chief for El Salvador and negotiated an economic program supported by an $800 million precautionary Stand-By Arrangement. Since mid 2009, he is the head of the Eastern Caribbean Division. Despite his heavy travel schedule, he enjoys the beauty of New England and in 2004 completed the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon.
