Carl Byers is an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy. Byers works as a Venture Partner at Fidelity Biosciences, a healthcare focused venture capital fund. He is also an advisor to health-related startups. From 1997 to 2010, Byers served as Chief Financial Officer at athenahealth, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHN), where he was a member of the founding team. He led the company’s Initial Public Offering in 2007, whichThe Wall Street Journalnamed as the year’s most successful. Since athenahealth, Byers has worked as a consultant in micro-finance (in Chile) and as the financial officer of a health and water related social venture (in India). Prior to the founding of athenahealth, Byers was a management consultant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton in New York. Byers serves on the non-profit boards of the MINDS Foundation, Lexington Montessori School, and The Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Wesleyan University. He is also a director on the for-profit boards of Netsmart Technologies, Cureatr Inc., and HealthWyse. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where Byers earned a B.A. in the College of Social Studies. He was a Business Fellow at The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He also earned a Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He lives in Lexington with his wife and three children.
