Doug Ahlers, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy, teaches a practicum on the management of disaster recovery which blends case teaching and professional skills such as GIS and HAZUS mapping with applied field projects to support the ongoing recovery efforts in the Broadmoor neighborhood of New Orleans. He founded the Harvard Kennedy School Broadmoor Project, a collaborative redevelopment effort between the hurricane-devastated Broadmoor neighborhood and the Kennedy School. Ahlers has been a Fellow at the Preventative Defense Project at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science & International Affairs, and a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for Press, Politics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Mr. Ahlers is also on the Board of the National Democratic Institute, and he has served as an election monitor in the Ukraine, Palestine, and Egypt. He received his BA, MJ, and LSU from the University of Rhode Island.
