Profile

Doug Ahlers, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy, teaches courses on the management of disaster recovery and community and urban development. He is Director of the Harvard Kennedy School Broadmoor Project, a collaborative redevelopment effort between the Katrina-devastated Broadmoor New Orleans neighborhood and the Belfer Center at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is cofounder of the Recupera Chile project that works with three devastated coastal communities in Chile that are recovering from an earthquake and tsunami. He is cofounder of the Acting-In-Time Advance Recovery Project which works with the City and County of San Francisco and with the City of Los Angeles in advance of a disaster to prepare them to recover faster after a disaster strikes. Ahlers has been a Fellow at the Preventative Defense Project at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science & International Affairs, and a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard. Mr. Ahlers is the cofounder of Modem Media (now Publicis Modem) and is on the Smithsonian Institution's National Board. He attended Bard College at Simon's Rock and received his BA from URI and MJ from LSU.
