Profile

Joshua Flax is an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and a Federal Mediator for the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service of the U.S. Government.  He is teaching Introduction to Negotiation Analysis in the fall of 2013 with an emphasis on adding a practitioner perspective to negotiation-conflict resolution work here at HKS.  Josh has been a Federal Mediator since 2001, and he specializes in mediating large-scale labor-management conflict (i.e. strikes, lockouts) mainly in the private sector.  He also accepts certain public sector requests for assistance, for example, mediating and managing statewide public pension reform multi-stakeholder negotiations.  Before enrolling as a graduate student at HKS, Josh worked for a firm in London, U.K., organizing policy conferences and trade shows in former Soviet markets that were beginning to open to foreign investment in the mid-1990s.  Josh received his MPP from HKS and his BA from Brandeis University.
