Richard Dimino is Lecturer in Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He has served as President and CEO of A Better City (ABC) since 1995. Under his leadership, ABCs major accomplishments have included keeping Boston open for business during construction of one of the countrys most complex highway projects, the Central Artery/Tunnel Project. Additionally, he influenced the planning, design and development of a 27-acre corridor along Bostons waterfront. Through Mr. Diminos guidance, ABC launched its Challenge for Sustainability initiative, and recently played a key role in shaping Massachusetts Transportation Reform Legislation, which led to the launch of the new Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).

Prior to A Better City, Mr. Dimino served as Vice President and Deputy Manager of Stone & Webster Engineering Corporations Transportation Business Sector. From 1985 to 1993, he was Bostons Commissioner of Transportation, overseeing a 400-plus member department that developed and implemented all transportation policies and projects for the city. Previously, Mr. Dimino was Chairman of Bostons CentralArtery/TunnelProject Interagency Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the MBTA Advisory Board. He was also former Chairman and President of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), where he currently serves on the Executive Committee. Mr. Dimino presently serves as Vice Chairman for the Boston Harbor Association, is a member of the Freedom Trail Foundation, and was recently appointed to the Commonwealth Sustainability Advisory Committee.

Mr. Dimino received his MBA from Boston University in 1994 and is a 1978 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Northeastern University. In 1991 he completed a Loeb Fellowship at Harvard Universitys Graduate School of Design, focusing on urban policy and design, transportation planning, architecture and economics. Mr. Dimino is a lecturer and studio critic at Harvard University, where he teaches Transportation Planning and Development, and has been an adjunct professor at Boston University. This past spring, he served as the keynote speaker for the 2012 Hong Kong Urban Design Institute Annual Conference.
