Profile

Timothy Nelson is Lecturer in Public Policy. His research focuses on low-income, non-custodial fathers, as well as congregational studies and African American religion. His most recent publication is Every Time I Feel the Spirit: Religious Experience and Ritual in an African American Congregation. His next book is tentatively titled Marginal Men: Fatherhood in the Lives of Low Income Unmarried Men (with Kathryn Edin and Laura Lein). Nelson received his PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago in 1997 and has also taught at Northwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania.
