Wilderness @ Park.Net

Even before the arrival of WIN, Henry had begun to develop his own database of wilderness areas within the Park system, unbeknownst to those in Missoula. This database intended to provide comprehensive information about each Park Service wilderness area, including the 17 points requested from each Park as well as internal information Henry was collecting about physical features, authorizing laws, and management objectives that fell outside of the sanctioned "public" information. Working with the internal Park Service wilderness committee, he intended to create an exclusive homepage for National Park wilderness within the Park.Net site. In doing so, Henry was following the letter and spirit of the Park Service information guidelines; it appeared clear to him that the needs of the Park Service to maintain control over the collection and distribution of its own data superseded the yet-to-be-proved advantages of WIN as a broader forum for the support of wilderness.
