This 50 minute film - part of the award-winning TV series Return to Europe - explores the background to one of the most successful international crisis preventions in the past two decades.
In 2001 the small multiethnic Balkan Republic of Macedonia stood on the verge of civil war. A rapid intervention by NATO and the EU succeeded in getting the country back from the brink. This year the European Commission recommended to start full membership accession talks with Macedonia.
Following the film there will be a short discussion with Ivica Bocevski, former deputy prime minister of Macedonia, and Gerald Knaus, director of ESI/Carr Centre Fellow and co-author of the script. |
