Topic: "Why They Won the Nobel Peace Prize," a discussion with Ambassador Swanee Hunt
Speaker: Ambassador Swanee Hunt, founder and president of Hunt Alternatives Fund and chair of the Institute for Inclusive Security. |
Overview: Ambassador Hunt will talk about the work of the Washington-based Institute for Inclusive Security which conducts research, training, and advocacy to integrate women into peace processes. The presentation will also address this year?s Nobel Peace Prize acknowledgement of women?s important role in peacebuilding and leadership. Three trailblazing women involved in peace and security efforts received the Nobel Prize this year, including: President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman. The discussion will explore the reasoning behind this decision: exploring the concept and application of inclusive security, approaches to conflict prevention, resolution, and reconstruction where women leaders play an integral role.
