Together with the Carr Center Human Rights and Social Movements Program, the Initiative to Stop Human Trafficking convenes a monthly Working Group on Modern-Day Slavery and Human Trafficking. Christina Bain and Timothy Patrick McCarthy co-chair the Working Group.

The Working Group is an unprecedented collaboration of scholars and practitioners from across New England, providing a monthly forum throughout the year to discuss new research methodologies and advocacy strategies on modern-day slavery and human trafficking. Its members represent a broad range of regional institutions: Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Yale University, Tufts University, Northeastern University, Suffolk University School of Law, Bentley University, University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Boston University, and the University of Rhode Island.

With the dual goal of producing excellent scholarship and shaping effective policy, the Working Group seeks to bring together a diverse group of academics and activists uniformly committed to ending this global human rights crisis. At each meeting of the Working Group, members present their research for comments and criticism. The Carr Center will then produce a series of working papers and other publications on modern-day slavery and human trafficking.

The Working Group will meet monthly, on Thursdays, throughout the academic year. The 2009-10 meeting dates are: Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Dec. 17, Feb. 18, Mar. 25, Apr. 15, and May 20.
