security and Rights in the Classroom During and After Violent Conflict”

A presentation by

Zeena Zakharia
Gebran G. Tueni Fellow
Carr Center for Human Rights Policy

Zeena Zakharia, Gebran G. Tueni Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy-HKS, will be giving a presentation on language policy from a human rights perspective, especially with regards to conflict/post-conflict settings. Her presentation will explore the work of teachers as key policy actors during periods of violent political conflict and post-war reconstruction. Specifically, it considers how language teachers at one Shi'i school in Lebanon negotiated between the demands and pressures of external standards in education and students' academic and social needs during a period of acute sociopolitical crisis.
