Founder, Serbian youth resistance movement OTPOR!
Srdja Popovic is the founder and director of the Belgrade-based Centre for Applied Non-Violent Action & Strategies (CANVAS) and was also the founder of the Serbian youth resistance movement OTPOR!, which was instrumental in toppling Milosevic from power in 1999 in the former Yugoslavia. Through CANVAS, he and his colleagues have promoted and taught nonviolent resistance strategies to youth activists from more than 50 countries, including Egypt, Lebanon, Belarus, North Korea, and Burma. Srdja's work landed him in Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers earlier this year and led to a Nobel-peace prize nomination for CANVAS. He will explore consequences, lessons learned, and possible future scenarios of the 'YouthQuakes' around the world.
