"Justice in Guatemala Before and After the Rios Montt Trial"
Assistant Professor of Latin American History, Harvard University
Historian, Kirsten Weld will discuss some of the issues raised in her recently published book, Paper Cadavers: The Archives of Dictatorship in Guatamala. Such as the astonishing discovery, in 2005, when human rights investigators stumbled on the archives of Guatemala's National Police, and the subsequent rescue of 75 million pages of evidence of state-sponsored crimes. She will discuss their analysis, and the repercussions for both the people and the state of Guatemala.
