Training is an important and growing area of work for EPoD. We provide capacity building for policymakers and practitioners on impact evaluation and evidence-based policy design. These trainings include lectures as well as longer workshops, often organized in collaboration with in-country partners or donors. EPoD has also supported the strengthening of research and evaluation capacity in South Asia by advising on training activities at the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) in India and the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP).
At Harvard, EPoD faculty contribute to numerous HKS Executive Education programs. Current Executive Education course offerings led by EPoD faculty include:
EPoD is also working to train future leaders in development. EPoD faculty Rohini Pande and Amitabh Chandra serve as HKS Area Chairs for Political and Economic Development and Social Policy, respectively. EPoD affiliates teach a variety of courses and student workshops that employ rigorous empirical methods to inform development and social programs, including "Economic Development: Theory, Evidence, and Policy Design," "Policy Analysis," "Institutions and Development," as well as statistics and econometrics courses.
Faculty at EPoD are also actively engaged in developing and sharing teaching materials to support courses in evidence-based policy design, including designing teaching cases in partnership with the Kennedy School's Strengthening Learning and Teaching Excellence (SLATE) program. Some of the cases that EPoD faculty have created include:
