High-level private events at CID allow us to foster discussion and action among academics, policymakers, and practitioners. As hosts of the Growth Commission Conference featuring Nobel Laureates Michael Spence, Robert Solow, George Akerlof, and Myron Scholes, the Growth Lab convened scholars and finance ministers from around the world to address policy priorities during the financial crisis. The CID also hosted the UNDP “Rethinking Human Development” meeting marking the 20th anniversary of the Human Development Report. Top economists Philippe Aghion, Dani Rodrik, Jeffrey Frankel, Roberto Unger, and other scholars brainstormed with UNDP research directors to push the frontiers of thinking about the measurement and causes of development, and the policy directions that can enable human progress.

Development Working Group

Mondays, 12:00 - 1:00, Perkins Room, R-415

This year-long seminar gives students an opportunity to present research on various topics related to economics in developing countries. The series is primarily intended for Ph.D. students working in economic development and faculty with interest in development. Priority to present research is given to those who attend regularly. The Economic Growth and Development Workshop

Tuesdays, 2:45 - 4:00, Spring 2010 at MIT

Spring 2010 speakers alternate between "growth and institutions," focusing on the macro aspects of growth and development, and "labor and development," focusing on the micro aspects. Meets at MIT in the Spring 2010. Contact Gabriel Scheffler.

CID Graduate Student Lunch Seminar

Fridays, 11:45 AM - 1:00, Perkins Room, R-415

Seminar for students features academics and practitioners of development from various disciplines and organizations to speak on current development issues. The core audience is HKS masters-level students, but all students in the Harvard community are welcome to attend. Contact Jennifer Gala.
