A blue-ribbon committee recently endorsed a $2 billion plan that not only calls for expanding the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center but also for building publicly subsidized hotels and other facilities near the center as well. Proponents claim these steps are needed to make Boston one of the world’s leading convention destinations. Critics, however, have questioned whether the expansion would be a wise use of limited public resources.
