Video Produced by the Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI)

March 28, 2012

A video produced with the help of the Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI), a collaborative effort by the Rappaport Institute, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the City of Boston, and others, was shown at the 2012 annual meeting of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau’s. The video – which was prepared by a team that included BARI Research Director Daniel O’Brien, Devin Quirk, who heads of the Boston About Results program, Curt Savoie, data manager for the city of Boston, and Mauro Martino, a research assistant professor at Northeastern University – shows the timing and location of a year’s worth of calls for service made to the city by phone, the Internet, and via smartphones as well as data on streetlight outages collected last summer by UMass Boston students taking a research seminar taught by O’Brien.
