Commentary by Clark Ziegler, Executive Director, Massachusetts Housing Partnership
For several years, the Massachusetts Housing Partnership’s Foreclosure Monitor has tracked foreclosure activity in the state. The most recent report, which was issued in January 2012, found that more than half of all properties in foreclosure are becoming bank-owned, indicating that despite low interest rates, third-party buyers in Massachusetts have little appetite for foreclosed properties, especially outside of Boston. Moreover, the foreclosure crisis has shifted somewhat away from urban areas.
