Award Obligations

Obligations incurred by SIF award recipients

SIF award recipients must complete an on-line post-internship evaluation by September 15 in order to receive the final $100 of their award. Grant recipients must also agree to accept an active role in next year’s fundraising activities. The minimum commitment includes volunteering the night of the Summer Internship Fund Auction plus at least ten hours of volunteer work for other SIF fundraising activities (selling raffle tickets, event planning, etc.). SIF funding will only be available to those who can commit to this support.

Note on Tax Liability

SIF grants are considered reportable income on your income tax returns. International students should also be aware that taxes may be withheld from the grant. Some international students will be exempt from taxes as a result of tax treaties between their country and the United States. To inquire about exemptions or other tax issues, contact Harvard's Tax Services Office at 617-495-8436.

Award Agreement for HKS Students Participating in Summer Internships

All awardees will be required to sign an Award Agreement (link to PDF) before receiving their grant; students receiving work-study should complete the Work-Study Award Agreement (link to PDF). International students will also be required to complete a Foreign National Information Form and provide required corresponding visa information and documentation.

Students traveling abroad will also be required to attend a travel safety session, read the Student Travel Risk Memo (link to PDF) and to sign an Assumption of Risk and General Release Form (link to PDF). We also strongly suggest that students traveling register their trips with Harvard’s International SOS Travel Assistance Program.
