Eligibility
SIF-funded internships must be in the public or non-profit sector with organizations whose work reflects the public service commitment of the Kennedy School. The internship should represent a logical step in your career path and provide a meaningful addition to the work of the sponsoring organization. Students must work full time for at least eight (8) weeks at one organization to be eligible for SIF funding.
Minimum requirements for SIF awards include:
- You must currently be enrolled in your first year at the Kennedy School.
SIF is designed mainly to support students on summer internships between their first and second years of study at the Kennedy School. To be eligible, you must be returning to Cambridge the academic year following your internship. Please note that you may only receive SIF funding during one summer. Joint degree students may wish to contact OCA regarding their eligibility for SIF funding.
- You must have been offered an internship.
Your application must include a letter from a sponsoring organization, specifying that you have been offered an internship and describing their expectations. In many cases, students make contact with an organization independently; others may find opportunities in JACK or through on-campus recruiting.
- The internship must be full time for at least eight (8) weeks at one organization. Internships lasting less than eight weeks are not eligible for stipends. Please note that we will only consider one internship per summer.
SIF supports both US-based and international internships. We do not support internships in the private sector or with active political campaigns.
