For students enrolled in only a HKS program, the point allocations are as follows:
| Program | Points per Academic Year |
| MPP1 | 300 |
| MPP2 | 1000 |
| MPA1 | 700 |
| MPA2 | 1000 |
| MC-MPA | 1000 |
| MPA/ID1 | 300 |
| MPA/ID2 | 1000 |
| Non-Degree | 300 |
| LKY Fellows | 300 |
| PhD1, w/o Master's Degree | 300 |
| PhD1 w/ Master's Degree | 700 |
| PhD2 | 1000 |
Part-time students receive one half of their program’s allocation.
Point allocation will vary for students returning from a leave of absence (not related to being enrolled in a combined degree). Please contact the Office of the Registrar for the complete policy.
Students who come to the HKS having already been accepted to a combined program will receive the same amount of points as first year students in their program plus 50% of the second year allocation for a total as follows:
| Program | Points Over Entire Program |
| MPA/ID | 800 |
| MPP | 800 |
| MPA2 | 1200 |
For combined degree students who apply to another program while first-year students here, there is a slightly different formula as follows:
| Program | First Year | Last Semester | Maximum Total |
| MPA/ID | 300 | 400 + Carry Over | 700 |
| MPP | 300 | 400 + Carry Over | 700 |
| MPA2 | 700 | 300 + Carry Over | 1000 |
