Pre-Approved Courses for Cross Registration

The following are pre-approved for MPP, MPA2 and MPA/MC students at HKS.  All graduate courses at:

  • Harvard Business School**
  • Harvard Law School***
  • Harvard School of Public Health
  • Harvard Graduate School of Design
  • All graduate courses in the Economics, Government, Sociology, History, and Social Anthropology departments at the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Science
  • The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts
  • The Sloan School at MIT**
  • MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning
  • MIT Department of Economics
  • MIT Department of Political Science

* All MPA/ID students must receive approval by the MPA/ID Faculty Chair or Program Director for any cross-registered course.
** Combined/Joint degree MBA students may not receive credit toward their HKS degree for courses taken at the school from which they are receiving the MBA degree or any other business or management school.
*** Combined/Joint degree JD students may not receive credit toward their HKS degree for courses taken at the school from which they are receiving the JD degree or any other law school.

In addition to the above, a selection of other courses have been preapproved for cross-registration.  For a complete list of courses that have been pre-approved, refer to the 2008-2009 Pre-Approved Course List (Link to PDF).

If you wish to take a course not on this list, you may request to have your course considered for HKS credit. Please note that this list is based on past course offerings and thus does not necessarily reflect actual course offerings for this year. Check the individual schools' course catalogs or the Harvard-wide catalog.
