API-102 builds upon the foundation of API-101 and develops microeconomic tools of analysis for policy problems. This section of API-102 (B) emphasizes applications of particular relevance to international economics and international trade. Topics covered will include: the efficiency gains from international trade; the effects of trade on the distribution of income; the economics of international migration; the economics of outsourcing; the economic costs and benefits of trade policies (including tariff, quotas, and export subsidies); externalities and public goods in an international context; and the role of public policy in promoting well functioning credit markets. Special emphasis will be given to examining problems arising from market failure and possible public policy responses.
