This Ph.D.level course provides a survey of the major scholarship and research in the field of security studies. The course has three objectives. First, it provides an overview of prominent theories and debates in security studies. Second, it connects those debates to current issues in defense, strategy and national security policy. And third, it is designed for students to develop research ideas that will culminate in a major research paper with an eye to publication. Because this is a field seminar, students are expected to be fully engaged with the readings and discussions. Open to Ph.D. students. No prerequisites.
