How can individuals come together to create cohesive collectives across lines of difference, including ideological, ethnic, religious, cultural, and gender differences? Over the semester the course examines how diversity affects groups, organizations, coalitions, and societies, paying particular attention to the challenges and opportunities diversity presents for leadership. The course approaches diversity in a new way, treating it as a feature of individuals as well as groups of individuals. At times considers controversial topics in order to push beyond where the discussions of diversity, multiculturalism, and leadership often end.
Not offered in 2008–09.
