In this seminar, class participants will become familiar with the issues involved in the collection and analysis of data using qualitative techniques, with a special emphasis on those methods that are most appropriate for addressing policy questions. We will also discuss issues of research design, sampling strategies, constructing interview guides, data coding and analysis. Each class period will have a practical “how to” component where students can practice dealing with these issues.
Permission of the instructor required for non-doctoral students. Not offered in 2009-10.
