How do fear and anger influence decisions involving risk? How does sadness influence the amount individuals are willing to spend? How does disgust influence public policy judgments? These are some of the research questions we investigate in this laboratory methods course. The course will: (1) consider connections between theories of decision making and data on decision making; (2) provide training in some psychophysiological methods; (3) write a final research paper (10-pages, including references) and (4) provide hands-on experience in research. Depending on students’ level, students may run study participants, design a study, conduct an experiment, code data, and conduct statistical analyses of data. Weekly time commitment is 10-12 hours, including meeting time. No course prerequisites.
This course is for Harvard doctoral students. It is also open to others with the approval of the instructor. Also offered by the Psychology Department as Psych 2555r,
