This course will explore several of the biggest legal and public policy issues caused by the growing role of the internet for fundraising, organizing, and political advertising in federal political campaigns in the United States. The course will examine such issues as: What impact has the internet had on campaign fundraising? Are contribution limits no longer necessary because of the internet? How do outside organizations use the internet to influence campaigns? What role does the “media exception” play in an internet era? How should “internet communications” be treated differently than other communications under the law? How does the internet change organizing strategies for political campaigns?
