What are the 10 characteristics of successful lobbying campaigns? How do political interest groups arise, and how are they maintained? This module looks at interest groups from two perspectives: academic theories (many of which have surprising lessons for practitioners) and the experiences of interest group entrepreneurs. A simulation involves each student in developing a strategy and lobbying a member of the U.S. Congress. This period 1 module may be taken as a stand-alone or in conjunction with DPI-333M (Political Parties in Practice), a period 2 module.
