Today's leaders must have an ability not only to analyze thoughtfully but also to communicate clearly and persuasively. This intensive course will seek to strengthen the capacity of each student to speak with confidence, authority, and authenticity in public settings. Approximately one-half of the course will be devoted to classes that introduce students to strategies of communication. The other half will consist of smaller workshops in which students will hone their speaking skills, including their messaging and content development, their speech delivery and nonverbal communication methods, and their ability to control nervousness and speak confidently in stressful situations. Discussions and exercises will address the practice of public speaking across different sectors, industries, and cultures. Each course in the DPI communications series assumes a fluency with the English language.
DPI-801 and DPI-802M cannot both be taken for credit.
