Women in Informal Employment Globalizing and Organizing WIEGO |
Women
in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is
a worldwide coalition of institutions and individuals
concerned with improving the status of women in the
economy's informal sector.
The coalition was born out of the conviction that women workers - particularly those from low-income households - are concentrated in the informal sector. Although the informal sector contributes to both poverty alleviation and economic growth it remains largely invisible in official statistics and policies. Thus, WIEGO strives to improve the status of the informal sector through compiling better statistics, conducting research and developing programs and policies.

Intellectual Foundations IF |
The goal of this program is to lay the intellectual foundations for understanding the potential, and improving the performance of the voluntary, nonprofit sector in the US and throughout the world. Our aim is to define and address important but under-researched issues facing the nonprofit field through the use of a series of intellectual foundations (IF) efforts. We believe that each IF effort can begin to address some of the deficiencies in the field by convening a group of scholars who can work together to shed light on these issues and thus establish a foundation that could guide future work in this field.

Program on Philanthropy, Civil Society |
In recent years, scholars and development experts have paid increased attention to the role of private philanthropy, and of organized civil society, in the development of Latin America. This regions growing number of social movements, grassroots civic associations, voluntary and charitable organizations, and grant making and operational foundations, are all considered to be important mechanisms for mobilizing resources for the public good. In recognition of this situation, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) and the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations combined forces in 1998 to establish the Program on Philanthropy, Civil Society and Social Change in the Americas (PASCA).
