MID-CAREER FELLOWSHIP FOR NONPROFITS IN CHINA


Position Summary:
The Hauser Center Mid-Career Fellowship for Nonprofits in China will provide a current MPA student the opportunity to work with the Nonprofits in China Domain of Practice (China NPO Domain) at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations. In collaboration with the China NPO Domain Manager and the Center’s Executive Director, the Mid-Career Fellow will participate in the development of the China NPO Domain, which is one of five domains of research and practice that are being developed at the Center.

The position will start in August of each school year and is available to successful applicants to the Mid-Career Masters in Public Administration program at Harvard Kennedy School. It will run through May of the next year. The Fellowship includes a $10,000 tuition reimbursement.

Position overview:
The Fellow will partner with Hauser Center senior leadership in the strategic development of the China NPO Domain. The Fellow will help to further the goals of improving interaction between practitioners and scholars in the field, and creating multiple channels of connection between scholarship, practice and teaching. The Fellow will be involved in a range of activities, including but not limited to:
• Work with the Domain Manager in strategizing programs, identifying funders, and securing resources to support the domain moving forward.
• Reaching out to scholars across the University and a wide range of practitioners in philanthropies and in nonprofit organizations, research and policy institutes and other relevant identities in China.
• Work with the Domain Manager, Senior Research Fellows and other Hauser staff in conceptualizing and planning lectures and other public events that present scholars and practitioners from across the field to the Harvard community.
• Assist with the establishment and management of the practical issues study group on nonprofits in China.
• Assist with current research projects, including with the preparation of background materials and research papers.

Experience:
Interest and experience with the nonprofit or the social sector in China, with preference for those with an interest in continuing in the field upon graduation. Experience and aptitudes should include strong conceptual and analytical ability, strong social networking skills, outstanding written and oral communications, and ability to work both independently and as part of team. Sufficient Chinese skills in reading, writing and speaking are a must.
