Carolyn Miles became President & CEO of Save the
Children on September 1, 2011. At the beginning of her
tenure as CEO, she will join us to share her perspectives
on the challenge of taking on the leadership of a large
international NGO in the midst of a major humanitarian
crisis (in the Horn of Africa) and at a time of dramatic
organizational and system-wide change.
Save the Children works to create lasting change in the
lives of more than 70 million children in need in the U.S.
and 120 countries around the world. Carolyn Miles was
previously the organization’s Chief Operating Officer. As
CEO, she has called attention to the urgent need for Save
the Children and other organizations – public, private,
nonprofit and for-profit – to cooperate and share their
resources and expertise for the benefit of the world’s
children. She has also emphasized the need to use social
media and new technology to extend the organization’s
reach.
This seminar is organized by the Humanitarian &
Development NGOs Domain of Practice at the Hauser Center
for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University. Contact
Sherine Jayawickrama for more
