Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit
ManagementIn a time of shifting demands for
services, changing operating environments, and recurring
financial pressures, the skills of nonprofit leaders are
put to the test. SPNM, a joint program with the Social
Enterprise Initiative, provides executives with the
opportunity to examine their missions and develop new
strategies. The program guides nonprofit leaders as they
explore proactive methods for mastering nonprofit
leadership. HBS faculty and colleagues challenge
participants to strengthen their ability to improve the
effectiveness of their organizations. Designed for
executives responsible for organization direction,
mission, policies, and major programs, SPNM is suitable
for leaders of public-serving nonprofits. It is not
targeted at industry/trade associations, management
support organizations, or consulting firms. Faculty has
included Mark Moore
and Herman “Dutch”
Leonard. For more
information visit the program website.
Governing for Nonprofit Excellence: Critical
Issues for Board
Leadership
Nonprofit organizations require strong, innovative
leadership. This program is designed to maximize the
contributions of individual nonprofit board members.
Participants are challenged to examine their role and the
role of their boards in improving organizational
effectiveness. By examining issues of critical concern to
board leaders, the program prepares participants for
strategic planning and organizational transformation. Board
members gain skills needed to forge effective relationships
with CEOs, structure and manage important alliances and
achieve financial sustainability. Designed for nonprofit
board members assuming board leadership roles, the program
meets the needs of leaders from a variety of organizations,
such as those focused on social services, education,
healthcare, arts and culture, community and economic
development, and international development.
