Jack McCarthy
John H. McCarthy, MBA, CPA, became a Hauser Center principal and Kennedy School adjunct lecturer in October 2005. Jack joined the faculty after retiring from a 37 year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he most recently served as the Global Practice Leader for Education. He was the Senior Partner of the U.S. Education and Nonprofit Practice from 1998 to 2004. During his tenure with PwC his clients included many of the leading universities in the US , including Harvard University . Through that experience Jack has become an authority on business, financial reporting, governance and technical issues for the education and not-for-profit sectors. He is a CPA and holds degrees from Boston College and the University of Michigan.
Jack has published extensively in his field, including co-authoring the Financial and Accounting Guide for Not-for-Profit Organizations (John Wiley & Sons) and Understanding Financial Statements (Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges) in addition to numerous PwC publications on governance, auditing, endowment management and the Sarbanes Oxley Act. He is also actively involved as a trustee on the board of several not-for-profit organizations.
Jack brings his practical experience into the classroom where he teaches accounting and financial management as well as to his research interest in governance and accountability, financial reporting and the financial challenges facing the nonprofit sector.
