Profile
Paula Doherty Johnson is spearheading the Hauser Center’s major new research initiative on global philanthropy. With faculty and colleagues from around the world, she is developing and launching The Global Philanthropic Capital Project (GPCP), a collaborative effort to track, map, and analyze institutional philanthropic giving with a methodology that allows comparison and aggregation across countries.

Paula Johnson is also the Director of the TPI Center for Global Philanthropy, dedicated to advancing both the understanding and practice of global giving. Ms. Johnson conducts research to strengthen giving to and within other countries and works directly with individual donors and foundations to develop global giving strategies and programs.

From 2002 - 2007, Ms. Johnson was a research fellow with the Global Equity Initiative (GEI) at Harvard University where she developed its focus on global philanthropy, conducting applied research aimed at strengthening the role of private philanthropic investments in advancing global equity. Prior to her work with TPI and GEI, Ms. Johnson worked with several international development organizations, including the Harvard School of Public Health, the Academy for Educational Development, and the Education Development Center.

She has worked on a number of initiatives to build and strengthen philanthropic capacity around the globe. Ms. Johnson is a trustee and director of The Kelsey Trust, a private foundation that focuses on issues of education, children-at-risk, and the environment, and she serves as a board member of the Global Philanthropy Partnership. She received her BA from Brown University her MSc with distinction from the London School of Economics, University of London.
