HAUSER CENTER SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS
APPLICATION 2009

DEADLINE HAS PAST: All applications were to be received by 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 2nd. Applications are no longer accepted for the Hauser Summer Fellowship. Email any questions to Laura Johnston.

About the Fellowships:
The Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University seeks to accelerate critical thinking about the role and leadership of nonprofit and non-governmental organizations through research, education, and practice. As part of the Center’s student outreach programs we are offering summer fellowships of up to $7,000 each for Harvard University returning students or recent graduates pursuing non-stipendiary internships in nonprofit organizations in the United States or NGOs around the world for summer 2009. The fellowships are open to candidates from all the schools of Harvard, including undergraduate and graduate programs. Preference will be given to work in fields that connect with the work of the Hauser Center and specifically relevant to the Center’s domains of practice.

Eligibility:

Minimum requirements for the Hauser Center summer fellowships include:

• Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have been offered the internship for which they are applying. This can be done through the sponsor letter included as part of your application, or through other supporting documentation.
• The internship must be full time for a minimum of 8 weeks at one organization during summer 2009.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time degree students at any of the Harvard schools, or have a graduation date of June 2009.
• The internship must be for a legally-certified nonprofit entity in the United States or anywhere else in the world (but must also be legally-certified in whichever country the organization operates).

Please note:
• This is not an internship placement program. Applicants are expected to already have an internship offer with a specific organization.
• These funds are not applicable for summer research. The fellowship only supports full-time work with the organization.

Application Instructions:
A completed application will include the following pieces. Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.

1. Cover page
The cover page should state your name, Harvard school and program, year of graduation and degree expected or received, name of the internship organization, dates or length of the internship, and any other Harvard fellowships to which you are applying for this same internship.

2. Current Resume or CV

3. Statement of Purpose
The statement of purpose should describe the responsibilities and work of the internship, the organization you will be working for, how the internship builds upon your previous experience and contributes to your longer-term interests and career goals, and how the internship relates to the mission, goals, and work of the Hauser Center. Approximate Length = 750-1000 words

4. Budget Form
Please include a completed Hauser Center Summer Internship Budget Form.

(This form is courtesy of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Summer Internship Fund, which also has helpful guidelines you should consider for preparing a summer internship budget.)

5. Sponsor Organization Letter
All applicants must include a letter or confirmation from the organization you will be working for confirming that you have been offered or have accepted an internship with the organization and stating the expected work to be completed during the internship. The letter must be on the organization’s letterhead or in the form of an email sent from a business email address associated with that organization.

6. Additional Organization Information (Optional)
You may include any other supporting information about the organization and its work that you think would be helpful for the application review committee to consider.
