Community Council Task Force
Ak-Chin Indian Community

Concerned by the environmental, cultural, and social impacts of hyper-development on lands neighboring its reservation, the Ak-Chin Indian Community established the Community Council Task Force.  The Task Force reviews development plans, permits, and other relevant information regarding threats to air and water quality and cultural resources on the Ak-Chin reservation.  A strong assertion of sovereignty, this proactive process brings together the tribal government with elders and other citizens to ensure that the Ak-Chin voice is included in development planning in the area. The process is designed to increase consultation, coordination, and cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies while preserving tribal sovereignty and the community’s quality of life.
