A Review of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Grantmaking
in Support of American Indians
In an effort to assist the W.K. Kellogg foundation
understand and maximize the impact of its grantmaking
to American Indian causes and concerns, the Harvard
Project on American Indian Economic Development (Harvard
Project) is conducting a 12-month research project
that investigates the Foundation’s grantmaking
in support of American Indians. The project will: (1)
analyze the Foundation’s grantmaking to American
Indian causes and concerns over the period 1989-2002;
(2) critically assess the Foundation’s institutional
capacity to pursue American Indian-related grantmaking;
and (3) make recommendations that provide guidance
and direction for how the Foundation can strengthen
its ability to undertake American Indian-related grantmaking.
At the project’s conclusions, the Harvard Project
will submit a proprietary report to the Kellogg Foundation
and hold two briefings to discuss the project’s
findings. The first briefing will be for Kellogg Foundation
personnel, held in Battle Creek; the second briefing
will bring together a small group of funders in Cambridge,
Massachusetts to discuss and disseminate the project’s
findings.
