Sandra Sequeira is an Assistant Professor of Development Economics at the London School of Economics. In the Fall of 2013 she is at HKS as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Public Policy and a visiting member of the Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) research program at the Center for International Development. She is also the Lead Academic for Mozambique at the International Growth Center.

Her research focuses on three main areas in development economics and applied microeconomics. First, she is interested in understanding the drivers of efficient public service delivery. Her work under this theme identifies the determinants of corruption in Mozambique and Nigeria, and the impact of social incentives for health care workers to improve service delivery in Mozambique. Second, Sequeira is interested in understanding the role of informational frictions both in labor markets and in the process of entrepreneurial matching in the developing world. Her work in this area involves examining peer effects among first-time job seekers and the role of networking capital in small firm development, both in South Africa. Third, Sequeira studies the role of altruism in shaping consumer behavior through a series of in-store experiments with ethical brands in both the US and the UK.

Sequeira received her PhD in Public Policy from Harvard in 2009. She also holds a MALD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a BA in Economics from the Universidade Nova in Portugal.
