HKS Chat (Lotus Sametime)

ITS runs a free chat service for the HKS. The HKS chat service, called Lotus Sametime, accesses the HKS address book to easily find your colleagues, and the latest version of Lotus Notes (6.5) automatically logs you into the chat service, should you choose the auto login option, for colleagues to see that you are on line and available.

Professors and their assistants, as well as departments at HKS, can drop their class or group's email address (for instance, the API-101 email group or the IT Services email group) to see who is logged on, eliminating the need to add each member in your group individually. More information is available in the link below.

Using Sametime Chat

Faculty/Staff have chat installed automatically on their lotus notes. Your Notes client has a button on the upper left hand corner that is shaped like a conversation bubble. You will see "Chat..." appear if you mouse over this button. Click the button to start a chat and enter the full name of the person you wish to chat with. You can also build a "buddies" list by clicking on the "Show/Hide Instant Contact List" button and clicking on the "Add to Instant Contact List" button.

The HKS Intranet is also equipped with a chat button that automatically fires the Chat client. Log in to the intranet to use its chat function, the button is on the upper right hand side.
