Windows Updates and Infected Computers
While IT services does a great deal to protect our servers and network from viruses and worms, viruses can still slip into our system from unprotected desktops and, more often, unprotected laptops (which are usually used in several different locations and on several different networks and, thus, have more exposure).
Aniti-Virus programs such as McAfee will protect your machine from several malignant applications. However, updating your Windows Operating System (OS) is also a crucial part of protecting your machine. Microsoft releases regular updates that need to be installed quickly, for the updates are often released in response to a new threat.

To install the latest updates and service packs, go to the Windows Update page.
Access your Automatic Updates
To view the windows update screen on your computer, go to Start/Help and Support. A dialog box will pop up where you will see the link "Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update. " This page will show you the latest downloads available.
Set your Computer to Update Automatically
You can set your computer to update automatically by going to Start/Control Panel/Automatic Updates. This dialog box allows you to set your computer to update with the latest windows patches automatically at a time of your choice. Please note that this does not up date your virus software. Both Virus and Windows software need to be updated separately (they are different programs made be different companies).
Infected Computers
Infected computers pose a security threat to the entire HKS network. If you suspect or have been notified that your computer has been compromised, stop by the Student Computer Lab for more help.
