Kokkalis Program

Since its founding in September 1997, The Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East-Central Europe has been building bridges and networks for peace across Southeastern and East-Central Europe and between the region and the rest of the world.

Based at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Kokkalis Program's mission is to enhance the quality of stability, democracy, prosperity and institutional vitality in Southeastern and East-Central Europe.  Towards the fulfillment of this aim, the Kokkalis Program supports an integrated network of educational, research and outreach activities that prepare individuals for leadership roles in public service and bring together practitioners, scholars and students to encourage enterprising solutions to contemporary policy challenges facing the region.

The John F. Kennedy School of Government's mission is to strengthen democratic governance around the world by training people for public leadership and by helping to solve problems of public policy. As a professional school within Harvard University, the Kennedy School is dedicated to learning through research and experience, actively fostering the collaborative efforts of scholars, public officials, and others who are vitally concerned with the public good.

The Kokkalis Program has made significant strides toward overcoming the challenges that Southeastern Europe faces and has inspired new optimism by providing innovative opportunities for learning and interaction and by serving the Kennedy School's mission. The program has established fellowships, scholarships, internships and executive education programs that have built solid links between Harvard University and the region. In addition, it has introduced a successful series of research and outreach activities including, conferences, leaders' fora, academic lectures, and cultural events relative to the politics, history, economy, demography and culture of Southeastern and East-Central Europe.

The Kokkalis Program was established by Mr. Socrates Kokkalis, founder and chairman of the Greek-based Intracom Holdings, a global group of telecommunications, electronics and software development companies - the regional leader in high technology.  A product of Mr. Kokkalis' visionary commitment to supporting stability and development in the region, the Kokkalis Program is the first initiative in any academic institution to dedicate its focus and activities solely on the region. Through the generous support of Mr. Kokkalis, the program has already made great advances towards accomplishing its mission and is dedicated to broadening the scope and effectiveness of its undertakings.
