The Library & Knowledge Services (LKS) staff is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU), an independent research institute based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Through this partnership we seek to provide greater access to AREU publications for the HKS and Harvard communities. The Library has recently added many of AREU’s reports in print and electronic formats to its collection and will be adding more as they become available. In addition, the HKS Library has created a research guide with links to news, research centers, NGOs, international organizations, and other resources to aid in conducting research on Afghanistan.
Please contact Leslie Donnell or Keely Wilczek if you would like more information about these materials or about the library’s relationship with AREU.
The Congressional Research Service provides reports to members of Congress on a variety of topics relevant to current political events. These reports are not automatically made available to the public but instead are usually released by a member of Congress upon request. The gathering of the reports in away that is searchable to the general public has fallen to educational institutions and organizations. Our new Congressional Research Service Reports Research Guide provides links to those public websites as well as to a Harvard University subscription database which provides access to these reports.
The HKS Library has created a new research guide on the topic of Women & Development: The Global Gender Gap. The guide contains links to databases, organizations, and research centers which contain publications about women and various development issues. There are also resources grouped by the subjects of health, education, crime, and poverty.
Please contact a research librarian for assistance in researching this topic and any others at Ask A Librarian.
The World Bank now provides free access to their collection of World Development Reports back to 1978. These reports contain the World Bank’s knowledge of and policy recommendations on key global development trends.
